The Erpyngham Retinue, give demonstrations to the public and schools at various locations, on how life was during the late 14th early 15th century.

This is against the backdrop of the campsite of Sir Thomas Erpyngham K.G. (1357-1428) and set during the campaigns of the One Hundred Years war (1337-1453).

This period saw innovation in costume, armour, warfare, religion and politics. It was the time of Chaucer, the peasant's revolt. The "One hundred year's war" which included the great battles of Crécy, Poitier and finally Azincourt, when England was at war with not only France but also, Scotland and Wales.

During our demonstrations, examples of dance, arming-a-knight and weapons skills will be given, also practical examples of some of the mediaeval cooking.

Should visitors wish to join in with the cooking then a list of ingredients, they might like to bring is shown here along with the recipes.

Audience participation is encouraged during arming the knight where assistance by "volunteer squires" will be welcome, during the dancing the steps can be taught to encourage visitors to join in.

Before we begin, members of the audience can be given question sheets that if they wish can be completed during the demonstrations. At the end the answers will be given to confirm that the sheets are completed correctly and small prizes can be given to the top winners.

For obvious reasons of safety, participation in the weapons demonstrations will not be possible, but there will be swords and armour which can be examined and tried on at the end of the show.

Photographs may be taken, not only during the show but also afterwards with the Knights and Peasants so do not forget to bring a camera.

So prepare to travel back in time with us to the 14th Century, the days of chivalry and nobility when the sword was not only a weapon but a symbol of justice and honour.
